The University of Pavia in the period of Lombardo-Veneto

When the French arrived in 1796, the University of Pavia for new ideas and inflamed political passions. The new authorities removed the faculty of theology. The exams will henceforth be held in Italian, while the first took place in Latin.
After the fall of Napoleon, Pavia from 1815 will become part of the new state, the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto satellite country of the great Austrian Empire. The three faculties were: medicine, philosophy and mathematics and the courses lasted four years. The University had a director and a dean (the oldest of the teachers), the latter had the task of administering the Institute. The teachers were divided into three categories and were entitled to a pension. In 1821 the University had 893 students and most came from Milan. Some came from the Tyrol and the Canton Ticino. For example at the time to go to Pavia to Mantua cost 42 pounds (the salary of an employee).
After Five Days of Milan (18-22 March 1848), for reasons of security policy, the University was closed for some years. The children of the nobility and upper classes do not lose the years they prepared Sudio privately and gave the exams, when the University reopened .
