A little 'romance never hurts, and in fact at the outbreak of World War I (1914-1918), caused by the attack on Sarajevo Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand by by terrorists Serbs, began July 28, 1914 the war between the great powers of Austria-Hungary and Germany against France, Britain and Russia and it was the French army that appeared on the battlefield with uniforms similar to those used during the battles of the Italian Risorgimento (1859) and even the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
In fact, the infantry wore the blue jacket and red pants and even the horse has the same colors as you can see from the figures above. All of these currencies were then replaced in 1915 with a single blue-gray color, similar to that of all other European armies.
Another army that went to war with uniforms of the nineteenth century was the Austria-Hungary, but only for the cavalry. Again the jacket was blue and red pants.
